This Wednesday, Sampdoria welcomed Genoa for matchday 35 of the Serie A TIM. At the Luigi Ferraris Stadium, the visitors keep strongly fighting against relegation after a 2-1 victory on the derby. Domenico Criscito and Lukas Lerager guaranteed the three points to the away team, while Manolo Gabbiadini diminished for the hosts.
The first half started slow, basically with both teams studying each other and not really being able to create good chances. The first opportunity of the match came at the 22nd minute when Omar Colley brought Goran Pandez down inside the box and the referee awarded Genoa a penalty. Criscito stepped up and converted from the spot, breaking the deadlock and putting the visitors ahead.
However, they didn’t have much time to celebrate. 10 minutes later, the hosts found the equalizer with Gabbiadini. The number 23 went face-to-face with goalkeeper Mattia Perin and didn’t miss his chance, putting the ball into the back of the net.
After that, the visitors still had a good chance of going to half-time ahead on the scoring, but their second goal was ruled out after the referee saw a foul on the play. With that, they went with a 1-1 draw to the locker rooms.
As soon as the second half started, Sampdoria almost scored their comeback with Federico Bonazzoli, but the ball went wide.
The opportunity lost cost the hosts a lot, as in the 20th minute, the visitors were able to double their lead. After a mistake from Samp’s defense, Filip Jagiello stole the ball and passed it to Lerager. The number 8 shot from outside the box and put the ball into the back of the net, without chances to goalkeeper Emil Audero.
After suffering the goal, the home team kept on fighting and even created good chances to find a possible equalizer. However, their best chance stopped on the hands of goalkeeper Perin, who guaranteed the three points to the visitors.
With the 2-1 victory, Genoa reached 36 points, in 17th place. They are 4 points ahead of the first team in the relegation zone. Meanwhile, Sampdoria stopped at the 14th position, with 41 points.
