Ground of the Euro 2020 finals, the Wembley Stadium was the spot of yet another great performance from the English national team. This Thursday at the English capital, London, Gary Southgate’s men put in a seven-goal show past Montenegro. Harry Kane completed yet another hat trick in his career, as Tammy Abraham, Marcus Rashford, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Sofranac -own goal – completed England’s 7-0 home triumph.
As the match began, the English team kept possession, controlled the match and went on to open the scoring. On 11 minutes, Leicester defender, Ben Chilwell got the ball down the flank and connected with Oxlade-Chamberlain, who finished home with style. 1-0 England. Eight minutes later, Chilwell kept his wingman job as he took a set-piece and found Kane, who nodded home.
The Leicester City defender completed his hat trick on assists on 24 mins, as he took a corner and linked with Kane, who once again headed into the back of the nets. 3-0 England. The Montenegro keeper saved Harry Maguire’s header, but the rebound fell to Rashford, who struck a powerful shot home. There was still time for Kane to complete his hat-trick at 37, but this time, the Tottenham striker was assisted by Trent Alexander-Arnold. The Liverpool right-back crossed, as Kane controlled the ball and slotted into the corner. 5-0.
After a five-goal thriller in the first half, the Englishmen came back from the break at a slower pace and scored only twice. The sixth English goal came thanks to an own goal as Mason Mount tried to finish and Sofranac tapped into his own net. Some may say England is the best national team in Europe right now. However, we didn’t really see Southgate’s side facing an elite side in Europe, so we shall wait and see if the hype will keep going or they will fail once again.
