Manchester United cannot find the good football at the early stages of the new English Premier League season. On Saturday, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team had the chance to get away of Southampton’s Saint Mary’s Stadium with the three points, but even playing with one extra player for a long time, they only drew 1-1 at Southampton. The match opened Premier League’s Matchday 4.
Despite the 4-0 against Chelsea, United’s results are terrible so far. They drew against Southampton, Wolverhampton, and lost to Crystal Palace at the Old Trafford. It’s maybe time for Ole start to think about how he’s gonna reinvent the wheel this time.
United’s savior in these games has been the young Daniel James. The young Welshman, hired from Swansea did not disappoint and opened the scoring with 9 on the clock at Southampton. And what a finish that was.
Fast and skillful, James cut in from the middle and struck a beautiful powerful shot to the left corner to open the scoring after 9 minutes. United had numerous chances to expand their lead over the Saints, but both Wan-Bissaka and Ashley Young failed miserably.
The scenario changed in the first half, as the hosts started to dominate the offensive actions into the match. After 58 minutes, Kevin Danso got to the left-wing following a good save by goalkeeper De Gea and crossed it to Jannik Vestergaard, who found the back of the net in a beautiful header. 1-1.
The same Danso who assisted Vestergaard was sent off on 73 minutes, leaving Southampton down to 10-man. However, even with numerical superiority, the Manchester team had difficulties and could not break into Southampton’s area.
The result leaves United with five points in fourth place momentarily as all other teams still play in the round. The Manchester team has got to their third game in a row without winning. The only victory in the national competition came in their debut when they scored 4-0 against Chelsea at home. Southampton adds four points in the Premier League.
