After being defeated by Benfica in Matchday 3 in Portugal, Lyon redeemed themselves and beat the Portuguese side in France. Playing at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais the French side beat the Portuguese 3-1 with goals from Joachim Andersen, Memphis Depay, and Bertrand Traore, and reached seven points, just two behind RB Leipzig, leader of Group G. Haris Seferovic scored the consolation for Benfica.
The home side seemed to be thirsty for a rematch of the previous match and only needed four minutes to open the scoring at the Parc Olympique. After a short corner, Dubois crossed into the area, and Andersen arouses to nod home into the back of the net. 1-0 Lyon.
After the early goal, the French side kept on pressing high to augment their lead. And it was up to Lyon’s main man, Depay, to double the lead yet in the first half. On 33 mins, Aouar made a beautiful solo move down the left and crossed it into the middle of the box. Depay was in conditions to tap in and make it 2-0 Lyon.
After half-time, Benfica tried to reduce the gap at all costs and sought their first goal into the match. However, the consolation goal came just on the 76th minute, as Pizzi got the ball, and fed Seferovic, who controlled the ball, turned and fired into the corner. 2-1.
With the goal, Benfica went on in search of at least a draw, but soon, Lyon wrapped it up and killed the game. On 89 minutes, Lyon could capitalize on a counter-attack, as the ball was left to Traore down the right. He controlled the ball, and fired a left-footed effort home, with no chances to the goalkeeper, guaranteeing Lyon’s 3-1 win.
