This Saturday, Chelsea welcomed Watford for matchday 33 of the Premier League. At the Stamford Bridge, Frank Lampard’s men had total control of the match and managed to get a good 3-0 victory over their opponents. The goals were scored by Olivier Giroud, Willian, and Ross Barkley.
Needing the three points to continue fighting for a place in the Champions League, the hosts started the first half seeking for the goal. Since the early minutes, the Blues threw themselves on the visitors and started creating chances. Meanwhile, Watford were not even being able to get a shot on target.
The hosts’ goal was just a matter of time, and it came at the 28th minute. After receiving from Barkley, Giroud hit into the far corner to open the scoring. The host was not that strong, but it was enough to take away the chances of goalkeeper Ben Foster to save it.
Before the half-time, the Blues had the perfect chance to double their lead when they were awarded a penalty. At the 43rd minute, Christian Pulisic was brought down inside the box and the referee confirmed the pen. Willian stepped up and converted from the spot.
The second half was not as exciting as the first. The hosts kept the ball most part of the time and really controlled the game, but there were no real chances of goal, to be honest. Meanwhile, the visitors showed no reaction, basically accepting that it would be best to lose by two goals and end up being trashed.
However, before the end of the match, the Blues managed to swing the net once again. Already at the injury time, at 90+2, Barkley received the ball from Cesar Azpilicueta and hit in the top left corner to score the third and guarantee the three points to the hosts.
With the 3-0 victory, Chelsea remained in 3rd place, but now with 57 points, two ahead of United. Meanwhile, Watford stopped at 28 points, being in 17th place, 3 points behind the first team outside the relegation zone.
