Currently second-placed in the Championship, West Bromwich is close to book a place in the next Premier League season. Thus, with an almost imminent Premier League promotion knocking on the door, West Brom officials are trying to land their first big signing for the next season.
The favorite name is the one of Manchester United’s Jesse Lingard. The 27-year-old midfielder has been playing little for Manchester United under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and has only one year left on his Man United contract.
Lingard was once very overrated by Man United fans themselves, but after some years of multiple frustrating performances, even they gave up on Lingard. I’d say that nowadays, Lingard needs to look himself in the mirror, and recognize that he’s on a low, and a possible West Brom contract wouldn’t be the end of the world for him.
The Red Devils’ search for the likes of Jadon Sancho and Jack Grealish could free up space for the English midfielder to leave the team. In addition to West Bromwich, the English press highlights that West Ham, Leicester, Newcastle, and Everton are also eyeing a possible Lingard move.
Manchester United should not hinder negotiations, as if they do not sign a new contract with Lingard, they could end up losing him for free this summer. Lingard’s price tag would be around 17 million euros, but rumors claim that Red Devils officials would be happy to get something ranging from 10 to 12 million euros on Lingard.
For the Manchester United main team, Lingard has 203 games played, 31 goals scored and 22 assists. In the current season, the midfielder had 36 matches, adding two goals and two assists.
