It’s not a surprise that Lucien Favre has not been pleasing Borussia Dortmund’s leader. Honestly, the fans have been complaining about him for a long time. After the defeat for Bayern Munich by 1-0 at Signal Iduna Park, things just got worse for the Swiss manager. Since then, there are rumors that Dortmund is planning on finding a new coach.
In the last few seasons, the Yellow and Black have been making their fans frustrated. They start the season with a good squad and an enormous possibility of winning the German League. In several opportunities, they were almost there. However, the team ends up failing in decisive moments and that’s why they have been without titles for a long time.
In the current season, the story was the same. They bought new players, good names like Julian Brandt and Thorgan Hazard, and Bayern Munich were not as strong as they used to be. However, Dortmund wasn’t able to get a victory against their main rivals for the title, nor away and neither at home.
Even in the Champions League, they failed to beat PSG in the round of 16.
With all that, it was expected that Favre would probably leave. Since 2018, when he started being in charge of the Yellow and Black, there were 86 matches, in which the team won 54 times, had 15 draws and 17 losses. He was able to win one title, the last German Super Cup.
The preferred name to take his place would be Jesse Marsch, who showed a great work on RB Salzburg, mainly in the UEFA Champions League.
Marsch is the first American to manage a team in the Champions League. He started his career as a manager in the MLS, where he was in charge of Montreal Impact and NY Red Bull. After that, he had the chance to continue in the RB clubs, going to Leipzig as a technical assistant.
This season, he is training RB Salzburg. And, even though the Austrian club didn’t pass the group stage of the European competition, they were a good surprise for the football fans.
Another good point to the American is that he launched the young talent that everybody was talking about this season, and who went to Borussia Dortmund: Erling Haaland. This could help his transfer to the German club.
According to the newspaper “Bild”, Dortmund wants to replace Favre as soon as possible, once they still have 5 games in the Bundesliga. And honestly, they should have done it a long time ago.
