For the semifinals of the German Cup, Bayern Munich beat Eintracht Frankfurt. The Eagles decided to play defensively, but it was not enough to stop the Bavarians, who won by 2-1. Ivan Perisic and Robert Lewandowski gave the victory to the hosts, while Danny da Costa scored for the visitors.
The first half was slow and Frankfurt was playing on the defense, trying to close spaces and not let Bayern Munich get to the attack. However, it wasn’t effective, as Perisic broke the deadlock at the 14th minute. After receiving the ball from Thomas Muller, the Croatian put it into the bottom of the net.
After that, there were just a few dangerous moments. The Eagles had their chance at the 29th minute, with Sebastian Rode, but the ball went wide. With that, the home side went the locker room ahead on the scoring.
Frankfurt came back to the second half with a different pace than what was seen before, creating chances and finishing against Manuel Neuer’s goal. The visitors, however, kept on missing something. With that, the manager decided to change some players, he put Daichi Kamada and Danny da Costa in the field at the 66th minute. And it made all the difference.
3 minutes later, the Japanese assisted da Costa, who shot and put the ball into the back of the net, equalizing things for the away side.
However, when we talk about Bayern Munich, we cannot forget the top scorer Robert Lewandowski. At the 74th minute, the number 9 put the ball into the back of the net, after Joshua Kimmich’s assist. The referee first ruled it out because of an offside but after VAR’s analysis, the goal was confirmed.
With the victory, Bayern Munich will participate in another DFB Pokal final. This year, their opponent will be Bayer Leverkusen. The final will take place on the 4th of July.
