Atalanta welcomed Napoli this Thursday, for matchday 29 of Serie A TIM. At the Atleti Azzurri d’Italia Stadium, the hosts showed why they are the sensation this season and were able to get a 2-0 victory. Mario Pasalic and Robin Gosens scored the goals.
The first half was pretty busy, with both sides trying to attack as much as they could, but only with few clear opportunities of goal. The visitors had the first good chance, but Kalidou Koulibaly headed the ball over the crossbar. The hosts didn’t stay behind, having a very good opportunity with Papu Gomez. Goalkeeper David Ospina had to make a beautiful save to avoid the goal.
A few minutes later, the Colombian keeper appeared again to save his team but ended up injured. After saving Gomez’s free-kick, the 31-year-old hit his face on Mario Rui’s knee and left the field with his had bandaged. Alex Meret came in his place.
Atalanta came back to the second half a little better and were able to break the deadlock already at the 47th minute. After Gomez’s cross, Pasalic appeared alone into the middle of the box to head the ball into the back of the goal and open the scoring.
7 minutes later, they doubled their lead with Gosens. Rafael Toloi terribly missed his attempt of shot, but the ball went straight to number 8’s feet, who didn’t miss the opportunity and shot into the far corner.
Honestly, the visitors didn’t show any strength to actually equalize the match, and so the final scoring was 2-0 for the hosts.
With the victory, Atalanta keeps on their good campaign, reaching 60 points, in 4th place. They are just 4 points behind Inter Milan now. Meanwhile, Napoli stopped at 45 points, in 6th place. They now see Milan only 2 points behind.
