Opening matchday 36 of the Serie A TIM, AC Milan welcomed Atalanta this Friday. At the San Siro Stadium, the hosts even opened the scoring but the match ended up with both teams sharing points after a 1-1 draw. Hakan Calhanoglu scored for the home team, while Duvan Zapata leveled for the visitors.
The first half started really equal, with the two sides having the ball and trying to create chances. The deadlock was broken early, at the 14th minute, by the Rossoneri. Calhanoglu hit a stunner from a free-kick and put the ball into the far top corner to give his team the lead.
10 minutes later, Atalanta had the perfect chance to equalize the match, when the referee awarded them a penalty after Lucas Biglia brought Ruslan Malinovskyi down inside the box. The Ukrainian himself stepped up, but goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma was able to make a good save.
However, that didn’t avoid the visitors to level the game still in the first half, once they found the back of the net at the 34th minute. After Remo Freuler’s attempt, the ball was left to Zapata, who slammed home and put his team back onto the match. So, both sides went to the locker room with a 1-1 draw.
The second half was away more boring, with both teams being slack. With that, the scoring kept the same until the final whistle, with no sides really being close to scoring another goal.
With the draw, AC Milan remain in the 6th position, with 60 points. The Rossoneri keep on fighting for a place on next season’s Europa League. Meanwhile, Atalanta lost a good chance to get closer to leaders Juventus and may even lose the second place to Inter Milan, once they are just 2 points ahead of the Nerazzurri, with 75 points.
