This Tuesday, Werder Bremen and Borussia Monchengladbach faced each other for matchday 28 of the Bundesliga. At the Weserstadion, both teams needed the three points. However, the final result was a goalless draw.
In the first half, the home side went for the game. Bremen were fighting at the bottom of the table, which meant they wanted the three points more than ever.
With that, they had their first big chance of breaking the deadlock at the 11th minute. Yuya Osako sent a low cross to the edge of the box and Davy Klaassen’s shot stopped on the hand of goalkeeper Yan Sommer.
After the hectic first minutes, the game changed. Borth teams were marking better and started fighting for ball possession.
That way, Monchengladbach managed to bring danger to Jiri Pavlenka’s goal. At the 36th minute, Florian Neuhaus made an individual play and sent a strong shot from outside the box. Bremen’s goalkeeper was obligated to make a great save to avoid the goal.
The second half started just like the first. The hosts put pressure once again and the visitors tried to defend themselves. In a free-kick from Milot Rashica, the Swiss keeper had to make another good save.
Gladbach had space to use counter-attacks, but they didn’t take advantage of the opportunities given. However, it was just a matter of time until they got the ball back and used fastballs to arrive at the attacking field. The goal didn’t come.
Both managers tried to make changes, in order to leave their teams more offensive. Bremen’s subs made a good impact and improved the team. But they were still having problems shooting. So, despite the pressure and playing better Werder Bremen did not get the victory, which was vital. Thus, the game ended in 0-0.
With the goalless draw, Bremen remain in the 17th place, with 21 points, and will keep fighting against the relegation. On the other hand, Borussia Monchengladbach reaches the 4th place, with 53 points.
