Following yet another frustrating season, Borussia Dortmund has a lot to work on for the next season. The German side, who is clearly the 2nd force in Germany nowadays, can’t surpass Bayern Munich, who won the Bundesliga for the eighth-successive time.
Following Dortmund’s 4-0 home fiasco against Hoffenheim on Bundesliga’s final day, Swiss goalkeeper Roman Burki spoke out on the team’s lackluster performances and the lack of winning mentality.
He’s quite right, to be honest. Burki is not that technical leadership, but at least he’s got a little bit of remaining self-respect to spoke out. The way Borussia Dortmund lost the Bundesliga this season was shambolic.
They were four points off Bayern as the season resumed, but at the end of it, they finished 13 points behind the worthy-leaders.
I 100% agree with the Swiss keeper. The problem is about having the right mentality. Bayern Munich doesn’t stop until they lift a trophy. This Dortmund side seems to be as fragile as their captain Marco Reus’ Achilles.
Joking asides with the BVB legend and captain, not only Dortmund fans, but I think the whole world wants to see a better Bundesliga performance next season, as they need to end Bayern’s domestic hegemony once and for all.
The problem is not entirely about the squad, as they have been signing some quality players, just like Erling Haaland, Julian Brandt, Emre Can, and Mats Hummels. However, they need to focus on their weak points, and everyone must agree that their defense is definitely one of them.
I mean, with all due respect, but it’s hard to win trophies with the likes of Akanji and Zagadou on the back. They can keep these players in the squad, but the ideal scenario would be to bring in at least one more defender to pair with Hummels.
