This Saturday, RB Leipzig welcomed Borussia Dortmund still fighting for the second place of the Bundesliga. However, recovering for their loss last week, the Yellow & Black played well and were able to leave with a 2-0 victory. The young star Erling Haaland scored the two goals of the game.
The first half started with the visitors creating more opportunities than the hosts. Dortmund could have broken the deadlock already at the 12th minute if Thorgan Hazard didn’t miss a great chance sending the ball wide. In the following minutes, goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi was crucial to avoid the visitors’ goal in two shots from Haaland.
When the Bulls finally started to appear more in the attacking field, Dortmund took advantage of the spaces to finally open the scoring. At the 30th minute, Mats Hummels was able to free himself from three markers to start the fast attack. After a low cross from Julian Brandt, Giovanni Reyna sent a perfect pass to Haaland inside the box and this time the 19-year-old striker didn’t miss the chance.
The hosts tried to equalize things still in the first half but were stopped by goalkeeper Roman Burki, who just signed a new contract with the Yellow and Black club.
During the second half, Leipzig were more dangerous, obligating Dortmund’s defense to work more than in the first 45 minutes. Even though they had some good opportunities to score, the goal didn’t come, mainly because of a lack of aiming from their strikers. Timo Werner, who played his last match in Leipzig’s stadium before leaving the club, basically didn’t appear during the match.
The visitors, on the other hand, had basically no good chances during the second half. Then, already at injury time, they found a counter-attack and doubled the scoring. At 90+3, Brandt ran down the right-wing and crossed into the box to Haaland, who was able to touch the ball even with Amadou Haidara’s close marking.
With the 2-0 victory, Borussia Dortmund secured the second place, now with 69 points. Meanwhile, RB Leipzig still fights for a place on next season’s Champions League. They are currently in 3rd place, with 63 points.
