If you were missing football and, especially, the goals, the Revierderby between Borussia Dortmund and Schalke 04 was the perfect match to watch this Saturday. For the comeback of one of the big leagues in Europe, the Yellow and Black side got an amazing 4-0 victory against their main rival, even though there were no fans inside the Signal Iduna Park.
Behind closed doors, Dortmund’s amazing stadium didn’t seem what we are used to seeing. But that didn’t stop the home side to play their best football, even after 2 months without games.
Dortmund started creating more and having chances, but the first really dangerous attack was from the visitors. Roman Burki appeared to make a good save with his feet and kept it all square.
After that, the home team organized themselves and in a fast counterattack, they were able to break the two-month deadlock. At the 29th minute, Julian Brandt pulled off a magic backheel pass to Belgian Thorgan Hazard, as the latter perfectly low-crossed it to Erling Haaland, who of course, scored from close-range. 1-0 BVB.
We can basically say that everything in the world changed. However, one thing that didn’t change is the fact that the youngster Haaland keeps on fire.
Ahead on the scoring, the Yellow and Black continued to control the match. At the 45th minute, Haaland pressed the goalkeeper Markus Schubert, who made a terrible mistake sending the ball straight to Brandt. The number 19 assisted Portuguese Raphael Guerreiro, who entered the box and shot on the opposite post to make it two.
For the second half, Schalke’s manager David Wagner tried to change things a little by bringing two new strikers. And once again the visitors had the first chance to attack.
But then, in another counterattack at the 47th minute, Brandt found the unmarked Hazard, as the Belgian scored the third one.
Closing the scoring, at the 62nd minute, Guerreiro appeared once again. This time, he made a one-two with Haaland and showed class to put the ball past goalkeeper Schuber.
With the amazing victory in the main derby in Germany, Dortmund remains in second place, one point behind leaders Bayern Munich, who plays tomorrow. Schalke 04, on the other hand, go to the 8th place, with 37 points.
For Matchday 27, the Yellow and Black will visit Wolfsburg on Saturday, while the Royal Blues will welcome Augsburg on Sunday.
