Paris Saint-Germain won another one in the French Ligue 1, but not with the script we are used to. Without Neymar due to injury, which is not that surprising, the Parisians struggled and had to rely on Di Maria to beat Nantes 2-1 on Tuesday, away from home. The Argentine was important for both goals, from Mauro Icardi and Thilo Kehrer. Simon scored for the home side.
Even away from home, PSG broke the deadlock at the 29th minute. Kylian Mbappe received the ball down the left flank, went forward and crossed; Angel di Maria controlled the ball inside the box and shot, but it still deflected off Mauro Icardi before going into the net.
In the second half, Thomas Tuchel’s men almost doubled the scoring at the 55th minute. Di Maria crossed the ball and Nantes’ defender Andrei Girotto deflected it to his own goal. The ball ended up hitting the post.
However, it didn’t take that long for the second goal from PSG. 2 minutes later, Kehrer jumped higher than the defense and was able to put Di Maria’s corner into the back of the net.
Despite being behind on the scoring, Nantes found the strength to threaten after the middle of the second half. At the 68th minute, Moses Simon took advantage of Presnel Kimpembe’s hesitation to steal the ball and hit it past goalkeeper Keylor Navas.
After that, the home side kept putting pressure and even had good chances with Imran Louza and Simon again, however the Costa Rican goalkeeper was there to prevent a possible draw and guarantee the three points for PSG.
With the victory, Paris Saint-Germain remains in the first position with 58 points, 12 ahead from the second-placed, Marseille. Nantes fell down to 11th place, with 32 points. Both teams come back to the pitch on the weekend, once again for Ligue 1. PSG will welcome Lyon on Sunday, while Nantes will visit Dijon on Saturday.
