In the Tottenham Hotspur Football Stadium, the home team had a difficult time against Norwich. With goals from Dele Alli and Son Heung-Min, the Spurs suffered to build the 2-1 win at home and continue their dream of qualifying for next year’s UEFA Champions League. Norwich’s goal was scored by Teemu Pukki.
The 24th matchday’s clash marked the return of French goalkeeper Hugo Lloris to the field after 3 months of injury.
In the first half, Norwich made things pretty difficult for themselves, giving the ball away on a lot of occasions and creating chances for the likes of Lamela and Son.
With all the opportunities, Tottenham soon broke the deadlock. At the 38th minute, Aurier carried the ball to the right-hand side of the box before fizzing a low cross. Alli managed to get ahead of his marker to direct the delivery beyond Krul and into the net.
Norwich started brightly the second half, creating chances with both Pukki and Cantwell. The visitors were rewarded at the 68th minute when the referee pointed to the spot after Sessegnon has fouled Aarons. It was Pukki who stepped up to take the pen and convert it, making it impossible for Lloris to save it, even though the goalkeeper touched the ball.
For the happiness of the home fans, the scoring didn’t remain equalized for long. Nine minutes after, Alli’s low shot deflected on the defense and the ball flew to the far post, where Son was waiting to bundle it home.
The visitors tried to get the equalizer, and they certainly made manager Jose Mourinho more nervous than normal. But in the end, the Spurs won by 2-1 and stayed with the 3 points.
With the victory, Tottenham is in the 6th place, with 34 points (the same as United, who are the 5th place). Norwich remains in the last position with only 17 points after 24 matches.
The Spurs’ next match will be for the 4th round of the FA Cup, against Southampton, away, next Saturday. The Canaries will face Burnley on the same day, also for the FA Cup.
