This Sunday, Bournemouth hosted Southampton for matchday 37 of the Premier League. At the Vitality Stadium, the Saints kept their good performances away from home and beat the hosts by 2-0. Danny Ings and Adams scored the goals of the match.
The first half started with both sides seeking opportunities. The Cherries became the brighter side in the early minutes, bringing a lot of danger to their opponents’ defense, but not really threatening goalkeeper Alex McCarthy.
As time went by, the control started to change sides, and, being more effective than the hosts, the visitors were able to break the deadlock before the half-time. At the 41st minute, their top scorer Ings appeared to open the scoring and take his team with a small advantage to the locker room.
The beginning of the second half was not that different, just with the home side seeking a little more desperate for an equalizer. That gave Southampton more space to play and with that, they created more chances than Bournemouth.
After so many attempts, the Saints were given the chance to double their lead when the referee awarded them a penalty. Ings stepped up, but his shot was weak and goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale made a great save.
After that, the Cherries seemed to have their hope high again and they started throwing themselves on the visitors. They were even able to put the ball into the back of the net, with Sam Surridge, but the goal was ruled out after the VAR check due to an offside position.
With 9 minutes of injury time, there was still a possibility for the hosts to find an equalizer, however, what actually happened was another goal for the Saints. At the last minute, Che Adams appeared to guarantee the 3 points to the visitors and close the scoring in 2-0.
With the victory, Southampton reached 49 points and remain in 12th place. On the other hand, Bournemouth has little chance of not being relegated to the Championship, as they remain in 19th place, with only 31 points.
