Wednesday night in Brazil in the Group Stages of Group D in the Copa Libertadores Sao Paulo hosted Liga de Quito and ended up with a categorical 3-0 win over the Ecuador side. Barcelona and Brazil legend, Daniel Alves, currently plays for Sao Paulo, and he actually scored in the 3-0 win. Beside Dani, Reinaldo and Igor Gomes also scored.
Playing at home and having lost the debut match of the Copa Libertadores, Sao Paulo had the responsibility of getting the three points at home. It didn’t take long until the hosts got their first real chance. At the 11th minute, the Brazilian side was awarded a penalty, in which Reinaldo stepped up and converted from the spot.
Three minutes later, a beautiful play resulted in another goal. Dani Alves was left totally unmarked on the right and received a perfect cross to hit the ball into the back of the net.
After the two goals, the home side relaxed a little and the match started to get a little tense, with excessive fouls and many yellow cards. The second half seemed to be like the end of the first one and Sao Paulo were apparently a little lost.
But at the 61st minute, they found the third goal through Igor Gomes. After a good cross from Vitor Bueno, the number 26 put the ball into the back of the net and celebrated with the fans.
The visitors still ended the match with 10 players, after Junior Sornoza saw a red card at the 67th minute. However, even with more players on the field, the Brazilian side wasn’t able to score other goals and the match ended 3-0.
With the result, all the teams in Group D are with 3 points. Sao Paulo is in the second place, due to the 2 goals in goal difference. LDU is in 3rd, with 0 goals of goal difference.
