This Saturday, Atletico Madrid welcomed Granada at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium for matchday 23 of the Spanish League. Following a five-game negative streak, the Colchoneros found their way back to victory and beat the Andalusian side 1-0. The only goal of the match was scored by Angel Correa.
The goal was scored early in the match. At the 6th minute, after a mistake of the opponent’s defense, the ball was left for Koke who assisted Correa. Face to face with the goalkeeper, the striker did not waste the chance and slotted home past the keeper and into the back of the net.
Visitors Granada went on in search of a possible equalizer, but they couldn’t transform the chances into goals. The home side took once again control of the game and even scored their second goal through Vitolo, but it was disallowed due to an offside position from the striker.
After half-time, the Colchoneros came back still attacking and had a good chance to double the scoring when Saul Niguez shot low, but the goalkeeper made a good save.
Being 1-0 down, the Andalusian side went full attack and obligated Atletico’s world-class keeper, Jan Oblak, to make a few important saves. Granada was pressing so much that Diego Simeone went full Diego Simeone and parked the bus at home to guarantee the 3 points in the league.
With the positive result, Atletico Madrid ended a sequence of games without winning, in addition to having returned to the top 4, with 39 points. Granada remains on the 10th position, with 30 points.
