After weeks of negotiation and lots of speculations coming from the press, Italian side Internazionale announced on Tuesday the signing of former Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen.
The Danish player arrived in Milan in the morning, underwent medical tests at the club’s facilities and also at the headquarters of the Italian Olympic Committee, closely monitored by many journalists and fans. Eriksen signed a contract until June 2024.
Neither Inter nor Tottenham released any information regarding the values of the deal. But it is speculated in the Italian press that Eriksen, who will wear the shirt 24, has cost the Antonio Conte’s team about 20 million euros.
In the current season, Eriksen had played 28 games for Tottenham and scored three goals. He was at the end of his contract with the club (June 30, 2020). Last year, the midfielder had also been the target of Real Madrid’s interest, but the deal wasn’t sealed.
The Danish Christian Eriksen arrived at Tottenham back in 2013, after an excellent period in Ajax, in which he was three times champion of the Dutch League.
He was elected the best player of the English team in the seasons 2013-2014 and 2016-2017. For Tottenham, his greatest achievement was the runner-up in the Champions League in a painful 2-0 defeat to English rivals Liverpool last season (2018-2019). Altogether there were 304 games, 69 goals, and 85 assists.
Although a lot of Spurs fans were a little bit hurt with the eminent Eriksen departure, it’s clear that they will miss the Dane. Nowadays, 20 million euros can’t buy a player with the same quality of Eriksen, not to mention the fab four composed by Dele Alli, Eriksen, Son, and Kane, or the DESK, as Spurs fans used to call them.
On the other hand, Inter seems to be thirsty for Premier League players, as they signed Alexis Sanchez, Romelu Lukaku, Ashley Young, and now Eriksen. Antonio Conte might be missing his Chelsea days.
