Chelsea is one of the clubs that are taking advantage of the worldwide stoppage to reshape its squad. Thus, the team led by Englishman Frank Lampard has already extended Olivier Giroud’s contract.
Besides that, the Blues from Stamford have two more names on their radar. These would be Napoli’s Dries Mertens, and Bayer Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz.
It’s also reported that they gave up on Bayer Munich’s Philippe Coutinho, due to his price, and also for his consecutive injuries. They basically said between the lines that the Brazilian is a flop.
All kidding aside, the Blues are thirsty for a big name, as they are unable to sign anyone due to the FIFA ban they received.
Due to the fierce competition for Leverkusen’s Havertz, this could be the big man the Blues were looking for, and honestly, Havertz could bring the Germans to a whole-nother level.
But in order to land the signing of the German youngster, the club must pay a considerable amount if they want the 20-year-old. According to the “Transfermarkt”, the market value of the midfielder is 81 million euros.
However, it’s said that Bayer Leverkusen wants at least around 100 million euros for Havertz.
The German player stood out as a sensation in the Bundesliga last season, as playing for Leverkusen, he scored 20 goals and made seven assists in 42 matches. However, in the 19-20 season, that number was slightly lower, with 10 goals and eight assists in 34 games.
It could be the beginning of something special for the Blues under Frank Lampard. The Englishman and Chelsea legend as a player has been doing an excellent job ahead of the London club, and we can say that he surprised a lot of people with his work so far this season.
He had already a good last season as he was managing Derby County, and almost effectively brought them to the Premier League, in a very hard English Premiership.
However, we still need to see how the Football world will actually be after this whole situation with the Covid-19.
