Chelsea demolished Carlo Ancelotti’s Everton this Sunday at Stamford Bridge. It was Ancelotti’s return to London, and what a welcome he was granted by Frank Lampard. Lampard completely outplayed Ancelotti and saw Chelsea put four past the fragile team from Liverpool. Mason Mount, Pedro, Willian, and Olivier Giroud scored for the Blues from Stamford in the 4-0 demolition.
After a good performance against Liverpool midweek, Kepa Arrizabalaga seems that got Lampard’s trust, as he remained among the starters.
The deadlock was broken on 14 minutes, through Englishman Mount. The midfielder received a pass from Pedro down the left, and opened the scoring in a beautiful strike, out of range for his countryman, Jordan Pickford. 1-0 Chelsea.
Minutes later, it was time for Spaniard Pedro to score and double Chelsea’s lead at home. In the 21st minute, former Everton player, Ross Barkley picked Pedro out, as the Spaniard saw himself one on one against Pickford. The Chelsea striker had no problems putting it past the Englishman though. 2-0 Chelsea.
After the break, in an attempt to change things, Ancelotti replaced Brazilian Bernard, who was apparently injured and introduced Theo Walcott.
However, it didn’t work, as Lampard’s man scored twice more to make it four with nine minutes into the second half. The third one was scored on 51 minutes, through Willian. Barkley was the architect once again, as he triggered the Brazilian as the striker struck a powerful effort from outside the box into Pickford’s corner.
Two minutes later, after a short corner kick, Willian, on an inspired day, crossed and Giroud just tapped in, scoring Chelsea’s 4th goal over Everton in a true rout at Stamford Bridge.
It was a very poor performance from Everton. Absolutely the worst one under Carlo Ancelotti. However, we cannot only blame Everton’s poorness but also hail Chelsea’s great performance. Lampard is doing an amazing job as the Blues’ manager, and if it wasn’t for Liverpool’s outstanding season, they could even dream of fighting for the Premier League title.
With the 4-0 win, Chelsea remains in 4th place, increasing the advantage for 5th-place Wolverhampton to five points.
