Playing for La Liga’s 33rd Gameweek, Real Madrid and Getafe dueled this Thursday, at the Alfredo Di Stefano stadium. Once again, Captain Sergio Ramos scored the winner for Real Madrid from the penalty spot in a simple 1-0 win over Getafe. With the win, Zinedine Zidane’s men went four points clear at the top of the Spanish League with five games to go.
Despite the win, we can say that Real Madrid’s past performances have been pretty poor. Of course, that at the end of the day, what really matters is to lift the Spanish League trophy. However, Zidane should keep an eye on that, as it’s not common a club as big as Real Madrid to be relying on a defender to score winners every time. This is not going to last forever.
Especially in this Getafe game, they took a lot of risks, as they count on both goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, who had to pull off some great saves to deny Getafe multiple times, and also on the crossbar.
Real Madrid’s winner came out on 77 minutes, as Dani Carvajal was triggered down the right, got into the box, and was brought down by defender Mathias Olivera. The referee pointed out to the penalty spot, as captain Ramos took it and scored Madrid’s sole goal in the match.
Even though they did not play well, Real Madrid somehow managed to grab another victory to augment their lead to second-place Barcelona. Zidane’s side has now 74 points with five matches to go.
Madrid’s next match will be against Athletic Bilbao next Sunday, as Getafe will take on Osasuna in La Liga’s 34th Matchday.
