This Saturday, Paderborn welcomed Borussia Monchengladbach for matchday 33 of the Bundesliga. At Benteler-Arena, the Foals were able to get the three points with a 3-1 win. One goal from Patrick Herrmann and two from captain Lars Stindl gave the victory to the visitors. Sven Michel scored the only goal of the hosts.
Fighting for a place on next season’s Champions League, Gladbach started the first half attacking and they took only 4 minutes to break the deadlock. After a great pass from Stindl, Herrmann took the rebound from Breel Embolo’s shot and put the ball into the back of the net.
Embolo himself had a good opportunity to double the scoring, but the Swiss striker sent the ball wide. Meanwhile, Paderborn didn’t really threaten Yan Sommer’s goal and went to the locker room losing by one goal.
In the early minutes of the second half, however, the hosts finally managed to create good chances and were even able to equalize the scoring. At the 53rd minute, Sven Michel tried from outside the box, putting the ball into the back of the net.
They didn’t have much time to celebrate, though, since two minutes later Stindl was brought down inside the box by Uwe Hunemaier. The number 13 himself stepped up and converted from the spot.
Behind again on the scoring, things just got worse to Paderborn when Hunemaier saw his second yellow card, at the 65th minute. With one player less, the hosts were clearly having trouble and it didn’t take long to Gladbach to score their third goal.
At 73rd minute, after a long ball from Matthias Ginter, Ramy Bensebaini passed to Stindl. The captain of the Foals, who was the highlight of the match, didn’t miss the opportunity and secured Gladbach’s three points.
With the 3-1 victory, Borussia Monchengladbach reached 62 points, still in 4th place but just one point behind RB Leipzig. Meanwhile, Paderborn is already relegated, with just 20 points and in the last position.
