This Sunday, Norwich welcomed Burnley for matchday 37 of the Premier League. At the Carrow Road, the Canaries even started well but, after losing two players, saw the visitors grown in the match and leave with a 2-0 victory. Chris Wood and Ben Godfrey, with an own goal, scored for the Clarets.
The first half started with the hosts being the brighter side. They were having more the ball and even came close to breaking the deadlock, obligating the great goalkeeper Nick Pope to make a good save. However, things started to get difficult to them at the 35th minute when Emiliano Buendia saw a red card after the VAR check.
Playing with their full squad would already be difficult for the Canaries, who are already relegated to the Championship. But, before the half-time, they did not only one, but two players. Because, at the injury time, Josip Drmic’s turn to see a straight red card as well and leave his team with only 9 players.
And if things were still not that bad to Norwich, it became terrible at the 45+5. Chris Wood was able to break the deadlock with a half-bicycle shot into the 6-yard box. Goalkeeper Tim Krul even touched the ball, but it was not enough to make the save and avoid the goal.
In the second half, the hosts’ job was to avoid suffering too many goals, while the visitors were trying to make a good scoring. However, it took the Clarets a while to finally doubled their lead. It only happened at the 80th minute and with a little help, since Godfrey sent the ball into the back of his own net. It was really a terrible day for the Canaries.
With the 2-0 victory, Burnley reached 54 points and are currently in 9th place. However, they can finish the matchday in 10th place, depending on Arsenal’s game. On the other hand, Norwich stopped with the same 21 points, in the last place.
