With football suspended indefinitely due to the covid-19, many doubts arise about how, and in some cases if, major competitions will return. Yesterday, we had brilliant news coming from Germany, as they are apparently getting ready to kick it off with the Bundesliga in May.

However, all the remaining games would have to be played behind closed doors, and every player is set to be urged to wear masks while playing.

According to leaked documents from the German Ministry of Labor, which was released by Germany’s sports newspaper “Der Spiegel”, this would be a possible measure taken in the return of the Bundesliga.

In addition to the use of masks, the document also suggests that everyone involved would have to be self-isolated during the period of completion of the Bundesliga.

Another suggestion that was given and should be followed is the limitation of up to 300 people involved in the game inside the stadiums. Within this number, players, staff members, and referees are included.

Going back to the masks situation, it’s said that it won’t be the same masks we use on our daily routine, but a proper one to play football.

We all knew that Football returning would be hard, and these draconian measures prove that, unfortunately, it will take time for things to go back to normal.

I mean… It’s going to feel so strange to watch them playing with masks, no atmosphere at all due to the games to be played behind closed doors, and when they score, no hugs or handshaking…

We have to get used to the new reality…

The intention of the DFL – German League – is to complete both elite and second division with all games behind closed doors. Unless something happens in the upcoming days, the German League will be the first major league to return to “normal” activities, as it’s set to return on May 9.
