Benfica and Sporting faced off for the last matchday of Liga NOS. At Estadio da Luz, the Reds won the Lisbon derby by 2-1. Haris Seferovic and Carlos Vinicius scored for the hosts, while Andraz Sporar diminished for the visitors.
The beginning of the second half was pretty equal, with both teams finding spaces and creating chances. Benfica kept their pace at the beginning of the second half, obligating goalkeeper Luis Maximiano to make a great save to avoid the second goal in the early minutes. As time passed by, the Lions were able to equalize the plays and create chances as well. Then, at the 69th minute, the leveled the match through Sporar. The number 90 received in the edge of the box and hit into the back of the net.
The goal was really important to the visitors, who were fighting for a place in next season’s Europa League, and the draw would guarantee them in the competition. However, before the end of the match, the hosts were able to score again. At the 88th minute, Carlos Vinicius received a wicked delivery from Pizzi and put the ball into the back of the net.
The victory didn’t change Benfica’s life. They finish the League in second place, with 77 points, 5 behind the Champions, FC Porto. Meanwhile, Sporting stopped at 60 points, losing a place in the Europa League for Braga, who have the same amount of points, but a better goal difference.
