The match between Benfica and Famalicao for the semifinals of the Portuguese Cup was full of emotions. At the Benfica’s Estadio da Luz, in Lisbon, we saw both teams getting comebacks and a late goal to give the 3-2 victory for the home side. Pizzi, Rafa Silva, and Gabriel Appelt scored for Benfica. Pedro Goncalves and Toni Martinez scored for Famalicao.
The first half wasn’t that good, for the final scoring. The Eagles had more chances, however, they weren’t able to put the ball inside the net. The second half, on the other hand, was pretty busy, with 5 goals and two comebacks.
It was Benfica who broke the deadlock, at the 53rd minute. After a handball from Riccieli, Pizzi stepped up and took the pen. The number 21 didn’t hesitate and sent the goalkeeper Vana to the wrong side. 1-0 Benfica.
7 minutes later, the visitors were able to equalize the match. After receiving a long ball from the defense, Pedro Goncalves went forward, passing by at least 3 defenders and got inside the box. Ruben Dias tried to clear the ball, but it went to Diogo Goncalves, who sent it back to the number 28 to send it into the back of the net.
At the 72nd minute, Famalicao got the comeback with Martinez, after an assist from Pedro Goncalves. However, they didn’t have much time to celebrate.
6 minutes later, Benfica equalized the scoring once again. Rafa Silva was fast to get the rebound given by goalkeeper Vana and put the ball into the net.
The second comeback of the night came already in the injury time. At 90+5, Gabriel was faster than his marker to head the ball home. Vana still touched it but wasn’t able to save the goal.
With the 3-2 victory, Benfica has an advantage for the second leg match, that will be played at Famalicao next Tuesday. Between this match, both teams focus once again on the Portuguese League. The Eagles will face Porto, away from home, on Saturday. On the same day, Famalicao welcomes Vitoria Guimaraes.
