This Friday, Benfica welcomed Belenenses and won by 3-2 for the matchday 19 of the Portuguese League.
The Eagles had difficulties to get the victory but counted with the goals from Carlos Vinicius, Adel Taarabt, and Chiquinho to get the three points at the Estadio da Luz. Ferro, with an own goal, and Lica scored to the visitors.
Benfica opened the scoring at the 31st minute, with Brazilian Carlos Vinicius. The striker sent a header at the crossbar and, after getting the rebound, sent a left-footed shot into the back of the net.
7 minutes after, they doubled the scoring with Taarabt. The number 49 received an assist from Andre Almeida, after a corner, and used the right foot to get the ball past goalkeeper Andre Moreira.
In the second half, Benfica kept on with the pressure, but the own goal by Ferro, after a low cross, at the 69th minute gave hope to Belenenses.
Almost 10 minutes later, at the 77th, the Eagles were able to restore their two-goal cushion once again as Chiquinho scored the third goal for the home side. The number 19, who replaced Pizzi, put the ball into the back of the net after a decisive pass from Carlos Vinicius.
There was still time for another goal. At the 86th minute, Belenenses were awarded a penalty after a foul by Rafa. Striker Lica stepped up and converted from the spot. However, it was not enough to change things in the end.
With the 3-2 victory, Benfica reached 54 points and continue at the top of the league. They are now 10 points ahead of the second place, Porto, who plays this Saturday.
Bruno Lage’s men will face now Famalicao, next Tuesday, for the first leg of the semifinal of Portugal’s Cup. After that, they will visit Porto for the next matchday of the Portuguese League. Belenenses keep on 15th place, with 18 points. For the next matchday, they will welcome Santa Clara, on Saturday.
