Among recent speculation over Argentina star Lionel Messi’s future, Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu said in an interview that he doesn’t worry about that. That’s because he stated afterward that Messi’s desire is definitely to end his glorious career at the Camp Nou club.
The interview was given to Catalan “Radio Rac 1”
“I will not give details of the negotiations, but he has said several times that he wants to end his career at Barça. Now, we are focused on the end of the remaining competitions and we have negotiations with many players. Messi wants to stay at Barca and wants to end up here. There are still many years of Leo Messi to come”
Bartomeu added:
“Messi has a contract until June 2021 and we have an obligation to extend. He is the best player in the history of football and it is a must to keep him. Messi is calm and, as I said several times, I have no doubt that he wants to end his career at Barcelona ”
As always, the Argentine star is the most important Barcelona player this season. There are some who claim that Barcelona is a “one-man army” when Messi is around.
Barcelona’s remaining hopes for a title still this season are basically a UEFA Champions League all-in. Real Madrid has opened a four-point lead at the top of the Spanish La Liga, and it’s unlikely that Messi and the others will overcome the Merengues.
However, in the UCL, Barcelona still dreams of a possible 6th title, as they are still in the round of 16 against Italian side Napoli. The first leg at Naples ended up 0-0, and a simple win should do it for the Catalans in order to advance in the European Cup.
