This Thursday, Athletic Bilbao welcomed Sevilla for matchday 35 of La Liga. At the San Mames Stadium, the hosts opened the scoring but saw the visitors getting a comeback and leaving with a 2-1 victory. Ander Capa scored for the home team, while Ever Banega and Munir El Haddadi guaranteed the three points for the away side.
The first half started with a lot of movement, with both sides exchanged a lot of passes and trying to take control of the match. Sevilla, wanting to get closer from higher places in the table, started to impose themselves. Unfortunately, for them, it was Bilbao who scored the first goal of the game.
At the 29th minute, the ball deflected in Jules Kounde after an attempt of shot and was left to Ander Capa, alone on the right, who hit a strong shot on the left corner, with no chances to the goalkeeper Yassine Bounou.
After the goal, the hosts started to be the brighter side and created chances to double their lead. They would probably have done so if it was for the 29-year-old keeper was replacing Vaclik, who suffered an injury on their last match. And with that, they went to the locker room with 1-0 to Bilbao.
The second half started differently from the end of the first. The visitors dominated basically all the plays, so it didn’t take a long time until they equalized the scoring. At the 69th minute, Banega hit a perfect free-kick in the right corner. Goalkeeper Unai Simon didn’t have any reaction.
Then, at the 74th minute, they completed their comeback with El Haddadi. After Banega’s cross, the number 11 jumped higher than the defense to head the ball into the back of the net and guarantee the three points.
With the 2-1 victory, Sevilla are with the same 63 points as Atletico Madrid, but in 4th place due to goal difference. Meanwhile, Athletico Bilbao stopped at 48 points, in 10th place.
