Norwegian striker, Ada Hegerberg, of Lyon, suffered a rupture of a ligament on her right knee during the training. Unfortunately, the player will have to go under surgery.
The French club has not released a possible date for the recovery, but the estimated time for this type of injury is seven months off the pitch. This will cost the striker the rest of the European season: the matches for the French Championship and also the Women’s Champions League.
At 24 years old, Ada Hegerberg is the top scorer in the history of the UEFA Women’s Champions League, with a total of 53 goals in 50 matches so far. Last year, in 2019, she was the first winner of the Women’s Golden Ball given by France Football.
Ada is the main name of the French side, who seeks its 14th consecutive French League title. Lyon is leading the current season with 38 points, three ahead of Paris Saint-Germain. In the Champions League, the team seeks its seventh title, the fifth in a row. Lyon will face Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals of the Champions League on March 25 in France and April 1 back in Germany.
On social media, Ada regretted the injury and promised to dedicate herself to the maximum in the recovery process.
- So here it is. I ruptured my ACL this weekend. This is a setback for me, but I’m going to work through this with all my heart and my energy. The best is yet to come. YOU’LL SEE ME SOON!! – she stated on her Instagram account.
She is certainly one of the best players nowadays and it is really sad to see her out of the season. Last year we already couldn’t appreciate her skills during the World Cup – once she doesn’t play for her national team as a protest. Let’s hope she recovers as fast as she can and come back as soon as possible.
