On La Liga’s Matchday 3, Atletico Madrid welcomed Eibar at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium. It was a really tough game for the Colchoneros, as the modest Eibar gave them a hard time. The visitors went 2-0 up early in the second half, but Diego Simeone’s side went on to turn things around from 2-0 down to 3-2. The Portuguese jewel Joao Felix, Vitolo, and Thomas Partey scored for the hosts. Charles and Arbilla scored for Eibar.
What a disastrous way to kick off a game at home! Even with the support of their fans at the Wanda Metropolitano, Atletico Madrid saw Eibar opening the scoring early in the first half on just seven minutes! The Brazilian striker Charles was the one who broke the halt, as on 19, Arbilla doubled the lead for the visitors. 0-2 Eibar.
It was the first time since 2008 that Diego Simeone’s side conceded two goals at home before 20 minutes. A new record set by Eibar.
However, after the shocking start, Atletico could put themselves together, and discounted with the young prodigy Joao Felix, with 27 on the clock. The Portuguese star was assisted by Diego Costa.
It was important to go to the break having pulled a goal back, as it took Atleti seven minutes into the second half to level, as Vitolo scored with an assist from Lodi.
The hosts grew into the game and looked like they would score earlier. Diego Costa had some clear chances but missed all of them. Simeone tried to change the game, introducing Thomas Partey for Joao Felix.
When everyone thought that the game would remain like that, and Atleti would end up losing their 100% run in La Liga, Partey stepped up and scored the winner on 90 minutes. What a goal from him, and what a sub by Simeone! 3-2 Atleti!
Following the 3-2 late win, Atleti leads La Liga on 9 points. Both sides will have two weeks off due to the International break.
