With the Gasperini success ahead of Atalanta, the Bergamo club would be willing to offer coach Gian Piero Gasperini a lifetime contract. The coach is perhaps the highlight of the Nerazzurri team this season. Gasperini’s current contract goes until June 2022 and chances are high that it’s going to be extended.
Not only Atalanta fans are quite happy with the Bergamo team’s recent performances on the pitch, but also Atalanta’s board, and that’s why there are rumors coming from Northern Italy media that a lifetime contract will be offered to Gasperini.
At first, the news was published by ‘Tuttosport’. The newspaper brings the information that the end of the coach’s contract with the club is on June 30, 2022. However, it also does not hide the desire of former player and Nerazzurri president, Antonio Percassi, to offer Gasperini a ‘perpetual’ contract.
It’s not common to hear that a club is willing to offer a manager a contract until the end of his career, and that brings up the discussion of whether Gasperini would be worth it or not.
Gian Piero Gasperini arrived at Atalanta back in 2016, and commanded a major turning point in the team. Under Gasperini, Atalanta played 174 games, with 89 wins, 43 draws, and 42 losses.
Decent numbers, but what really kicks off is Gasperini’s offensive game style. Some even compare him to Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp. So that before the covid-19 forced break, Atalanta had the most effective attack in the Serie A with 70 goals scored.
Gasperini also led the Bergamo club to runner-up at Coppa Italia in 2019 and to an unprecedented third place in Serie A TIM, which put the team in the UEFA Champions League for the first time in its history.
Not only that, but Atalanta made it to the UCL quarterfinals after eliminating Spanish side Valencia in the Round of 16 with two thrilling performances from the Italian side.
He’s already a club legend, as he brought Atalanta to another level, and I’m sure it’s only the beginning of a love story.
