This Saturday, Atalanta welcomed Roma in the Italian Serie A and showed both emotional and psychological strongness to complete a second-half comeback over the visitors. The game was of extreme importance for both sides as the hosts, in fourth place, were three points ahead of the Romanists.
It was Roma who got ahead in the scoring, but the visitors were unable to hold on and Atalanta, the best attack in the Serie A, turned it around and ended up winning 2-1 at the Atleti Azurri Stadium, in Bergamo.
Despite both sides in need of a win, the game was far below technically and with few clear chances. In the first half, Atalanta’s Alejandro Gomez, and Roma’s Lorenzo tried but wasted their chances.
On the verge of the end of the first stage though, Edin Dzeko received the ball from outside the box and attempted from there, as the ball smashed the back of the net. 0-1 Roma.
Back from half-time, hosts Atalanta went on in their mission to grab a comeback. The equalizer came with 50 on the clock, as Palomino received the ball after a corner-kick and struck a left-footed effort into the net. 1-1.
Roma didn’t digest the conceded goal very well and Atalanta’s comeback seemed imminent. It came in on 60 minutes, as Mario Pasalic slotted home at the top corner and sealed the 2-1 win.
With the result, Atalanta, in 4th place, increased the distance for the Roma team, now with six points of advantage. Thus, the teams return to the pitch in the middle of the week. Atalanta, face Valencia on Wednesday in the UEFA Champions League. On the other hand, the Romanists duel against Genk on Thursday, for the UEFA Europa League.
