Liverpool are on their way towards the Premier League title. This Friday, for the 24th matchday of the domestic competition, the team made another victim and defeated Wolverhampton 2-1, away from home.
It was a tough game, as Liverpool’s winner came out through Brazilian Roberto Firmino at the end of the second half. Liverpool’s captain Jordan Henderson and Wolves’ Raul Jimenez also scored in the match.
Even playing away, the Reds took advantage of their momentum and went on to press Wolves in search of the opener. And it came with just 8 minutes into the first half. In a corner for Liverpool, Trent Alexander-Arnold connected with Henderson as the captain headed home past Portuguese Rui Patricio. 0-1 Liverpool.
Following Henderson’s opener, Liverpool’s Sadio Mane asked to be replaced as he was feeling an injury. Jurgen Klopp replaced him with Japanese Takumi Minamino.
After conceding first, the home team created some chances in the first half, but Liverpool could hold the Wolves at the Molineux until half-time.
However, Wolverhampton could change the game after the break and managed to equalize it after 6 minutes into the second half. Adama Traore received the ball down the left and floated a perfect cross to Jimenez, who took Liverpool’s clean sheet for the first time in the year. 1-1.
From there, both sides went on and we can even say that Wolves were better than the Reds at the most part of the second half.
But it was the Reds’ time once again to shine and score a late winner. On 84 mins, Mohamed Salah dribbled past two at the left side of the edge of the box and left it with Henderson. The captain pulled off a through ball to Firmino, as the Brazilian found the top corner from close-range to seal another win for the Reds. 1-2 Liverpool.
With the victory, Liverpool maintains the advantage at the top with 16 points clear. In the next matchweek, Jurgen’s men will face Southampton next Saturday while Wolverhampton will face Manchester United on the same day.
