This Saturday, for the 21st matchday of the Italian Serie A, Atalanta thrashed Torino, 7-0 away, and remained in contention for a place in the next UEFA Champions League. With the victory, the club continues in fifth place, while Torino is in tenth.
Even playing away from their domains, the visitors had control of the first half, having more possession and creating more chances. The team scored the first on 17 minutes when Palomino stole the ball from the defender on the side and made a low cross for Ilicic to blow the net and open the scoring.
Later, at 29, Atalanta expanded with midfielder Gosens. In a corner-kick for the team, the defense tried to clear it, but Gosens showed opportunism to recover the loose ball and strike a beautiful first-time shot into the corner of Torino’s keeper. 0-2 Atalanta.
Still in the first half, at 45+1, Ilicic drew a penalty for Atalanta. David Zapata was the taker, as he dislocated goalkeeper Sirigu to make it three before half-time.
In the second half, the visitors kept on dominating and reached the fourth goal on 53 mins. And what a goal that was. In a free-kick from midfield for Atalanta, Ilicic noticed Sirigu was very advanced in relation to his goal line and risked a rare finish from very far away. The ball flew all the way into the back of the net. A masterpiece from the Serb. 0-4 Atalanta.
Ilicic struck again in the next minute. In a quick-counter, Gomez passed it to the Serb, who turned the keeper and scored the 5th.
Torino still had Armando Izzo sent off for the second yellow on 76′, and made it even easier for Luis Muriel to score twice more on minutes 86′, and 88′.
On 89′, Torino had the second player sent off, as Sasa Lukic was given a straight red card, but the scoring remained just like that. Torino 0-7 Atalanta.
It was the second opportunity this season in the Serie A that Atalanta scored seven in a match. Back in matchday 9, they took on Udinese at home and made it 7-1. They count on the best attack of the Serie A, with 57 goals scored. A true goal machine this Atalanta side is!
