At the Commerzbank Arena, Eintracht Frankfurt welcomed Schalke 04 for matchday 32 of the Bundesliga. The Eagles were able to leave the field with a 2-1 victory against the Royal Blues, guaranteeing the 3 points. Andre Silva and David Abraham scored for the hosts, while Weston McKennie scored for the visitors.
Since the return of the League, Frankfurt has been playing well, having lost just one of the 7 matches played until now. So, as it was expected, they started the first half already searching for the goal. It took them 28 minutes, and three good opportunities lost, to finally break the deadlock. After a counter-attack, Andre Silva entered the box, left the defender on the ground, and put the ball into the back of the net.
The Eagles could have probably scored more goals in the first half if it wasn’t for the bad aiming of their players, especially Japanese Daichi Kamada who lost some good chances. Schalke, on the other hand, didn’t have any chance during the first 45 minutes.
Things only got worse for the Royal Blues when the second half started. Already at the 50th minute, the hosts doubled their scoring. Filip Kostic’s free-kick went straight to Abraham’s head, who was alone on the far post, and the number 19 put the ball into the back of the net. As in the first goal, goalkeeper Alexander Nubel didn’t even try to save, just looked at the ball, knowing that he could do nothing.
At the 59th minute, Schalke finally were able to give their first shot on the target. And, as impressive as it may seem, they scored their only goal of the match. After a free-kick, McKennie jumped higher then Frankfurt’s defense and headed into the back of the net. Goalkeeper Kevin Trapp even tried to save, but he had no chance.
After that, the visitors even created other opportunities, as well as the hosts. Kamada lost another great chance, while Abraham saved the team after Michael Gregoritsch shot. Schalke still finished the match with 10 players, after Can Bozdogan saw his second yellow card at the 77th minute. And the scoring didn’t change, Eintracht Frankfurt 2-1 Schalke 04.
With the victory, the Eagles moved up to the 9th place, with 41 points, while the Royal Blues dropped to the 10th place, with the same 39 points.
