Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri preferred to ease the possible favoritism of the Italian team in the Champions League 2018-19. In a press conference held on Tuesday (29), the Old Lady commander commented on the main European championship and still used to compare the intensity of Cristiano Ronaldo in Juve and Real Madrid.
To continue in the fight for the Champions League title, Juventus will need to go through Atletico Madrid, in a duel valid for the round of 16 of the competition. Pointed by some as the favorite team to win the title, Allegri preferred to highlight that labeling.
“The match in Madrid is a football match and no one can say that Juventus are the favorite and that we are the number one team in the Champions League, it’s crazy,” he explained.
Allegri considered that the Italian squad that will face Atletico Madrid on February 20 in the first leg and on March 12 in Turin in the return game will need to be “good and lucky” to advance in the Champions League.
Five-time UCL champion Cristiano Ronaldo became the club’s main player after switching from Madrid to Turin earlier this season. According to the coach, the change of club brought more intensity to the Portuguese, done that can contribute even more to the favoritism of Juve in the disputed European championship.
“Cristiano is doing a great season, he has more intensity compared to Real Madrid. In Madrid a year ago they took a ‘vacation’ time, here he started from the beginning of the season,” he said.
Since joining Juventus, Cristiano has participated in all games except the Young Boys match for the second round of the Champions League, where he has been suspended automatically after being sent off in the previous match.
What do you think? CR7 of Juventus is better than CR7 of Madrid?
