Manuel Neuer is one of the main names of Bayern Munich along these years, but his situation in the Bavarian club seems to be getting more and more complicated. Due to his considered advanced age and unstable relationship with the Bavarian president, Franz Beckenbauer, a contract extension is far from happening.
With that, the German club is now monitoring the situations of some goalkeepers that could possibly substitute the number 1. Their first option is inside Germany, one of the keepers who have been standing out in the Bundesliga, Schalke’s Alexander Nubel. However, the 23-year-old keeper is not ripe enough for the job, and maybe he needs more experience before moving to Bayern.
Because of that, they decided to look for a well-experienced keeper. And who better than the German Marc-Andre Ter Stegen to take the job? The 27-year-old German goalkeeper is six years younger than Neuer and is currently playing for one of the biggest clubs in Europe, Barcelona. For the Catalan giant, he had great performances in the Spanish La Liga and also in the UEFA Champions League, which were the main reasons for Bayern to think about him as a possible option.
However, Barcelona certainly doesn’t want to lose him. They keep pushing for an extension with Ter Stegen in order to keep him in the squad. It is a hard quest, though.
At first, the Spanish club had offered 6 million euros, but the athlete did not accept the proposal. According to some sources, the German goalkeeper would demand a salary that would be similar to Barca’s strikers, something around 10 million euros a season. Apart from that, Ter Stegen would want to sign the extension until 2024.
It is not impossible for Barcelona to do so, however, it is important to know if it is worth it. Ter Stegen is not the best goalkeeper in the world and certainly had some terrible performances in the recent past, but I don’t see many options for goalkeepers in the market. And for Bayern… Manuel Neuer, even with his age, is still a better option than Ter Stegen.
