After two victories, Zinedine Zidane met his first defeat in his return to Real Madrid on Wednesday. Marcelo, Casemiro and company were completely dominated by Valencia and lost 2-1 in the Mestalla by the Spanish Championship. It was the 15th defeat of the current European champions season. They are about to equalize their own worst campaigns in the century in terms of defeat. Real Madrid lost 16 games in the 2001-02 and 2008-09 seasons. They have already lost 15 in this current season.
Oh my god. It’s ridiculous how this Real Madrid team is three-time Champions of the Champions League in a row. That’s absurd. Completely overrated players. Luka Modric is never the best in the world. Toni Kross was reduced to a mere player. Marcelo, Ramos, and Benzema are too old to perform that good. Thibaut Courtois is proving to be one of the worst signings in Merengue history. They’ve still got Vinicius Junior though. However, the Brazilian is injured.
Without great ambitions, far from the title fight and almost guaranteed to the Champions League, Real Madrid is in third place with 57 points. The victory is very important for Valencia. Marcelino’s team climbs to fifth place, with 46, one behind Getafe, the last team in the Champions League qualifying zone.
It was 34 minutes of marasmus in Valencia. Until Gonçalo Guedes combined to Carlos Soler and opened the scoring in the first attempt on target of the home team. However, before the goal, Valencia were dominating Real Madrid, creating chances after chances. The second came out at the 82nd minute. Parejo took a corner, and Garay widened his head. Real only woke up in the final minutes and, in the last minute of the match, Benzema appeared alone in the box to swing the nets.
Real Madrid even had a penalty awarded before the Benzema goal. The play was reviewed in the VAR though. And the referee disallowed the penalty.
Zizou met his first defeat on this Wednesday. Before, he had won his two commitments in La Liga: 2-0 vs Celta and 3-2 vs Huesca. Beyond the result, Madrid disappointed, once again, by their poor performance on the pitch. This is the worst Real Madrid I’ve ever seen. And they’ve lost only one piece. But nothing less than freaking Cristiano Ronaldo. Poor performances back and forth. Just confirm the theory. The Ronaldo-dependance is real. And they’d better get over it, as soon as possible.
