Opening Bundesliga’s Matchday 3, Borussia Monchengladbach welcomed RB Leipzig at the Borussia Park. The visitors could surprise the hosts, thanks to a Timo Werner hat trick. The visitors beat Monchengladbach 3-1 and kept up their 100% run so far in the German Bundesliga. Embolo discounted for the hosts.

It was a fast-paced game overall. And surely, Timo Werner’s performance was the highlight. Fast, strong and accurate, the German national team player completed his hat trick, and got to his 5th goal in the Bundesliga, in just three games. Not bad for the young German lad. It’s maybe a surprise that he is still playing for RB Leipzig.

If the visitors kept their 100% campaign in the Bundesliga, Monchengladbach dropped the first points on it. The hosts have currently four points, and are 7th in the table, just below the Europa League qualifying zone.

Getting into the game, it took 37 minutes until Timo Werner had his first impact. The German international striker was picked out, powered into the area, and showed class to fire home in a sublime finish through Sommer’s legs. 0-1 RB Leipzig.

After the interval, the hosts came back up to level the match. However, giving a lot of spaces in the defense, it was easy for Leipzig to set up a clinical counter to double their lead. On 47 mins, following a counter-attack, Werner made it two. 0-2 Leipzig.

After the early goal into the second half, it took both sides about 40 minutes to do something interesting. On 90 minutes, Borussia Monchengladbach capitalized on a poor clearance from RB Leipzig’s defense, as Embolo discounted for them in a header. 1-2.

The goal perhaps has given Monchengladbach supporters some wire of hope that they could maybe grab a point. The hosts even tried, and they pushed hard for it. However, on 90+4, Werner showed up once again, following a long ball from Hungarian goalkeeper Gulacsi, defender Ginter flicked it to the German striker, who gave final numbers to the match. 1-3 RB Leipzig.

Following the 1-3 away win, Leipzig top the Bundesliga with nine points. However, a lot of teams can reach the same amount of points, as they will play on Saturday, and on Sunday as well.
