This Friday, the match between Patronato and San Lorenzo, for the first match of Group A of the Copa de la Superliga, happened behind closed door due to the COVID-19. Without fans, the home side was able to open the scoring but ended up losing by 3-1. Julian Chicco scored for the hosts, while Adam Bareiro and Oscar Romero gave the victory to the visitors.
As expected, Patronato started the game pushing forward and doing the press on the visitors, even they being one of the big 5 from the country. The “Rojineiros” had the ball and were able to shoot, but they were lacking clinical edge. However, it was a matter of time until they could break the deadlock and it happened at the 25th minute, with Julian Ciccho.
Unfortunately, for them, that didn’t last long enough. 10 minutes later, the “Cuervos” equalized everything with Adam Barreiro and both teams went to half-time with a 1-1 draw.
Actually, the second half was not that different from the first one. The home side kept more ball possession, had more shots, but not really bringing danger to goalkeeper Sebastian Torrico.
San Lorenzo, on the other hand, were clinical and most of their shots were on target. However, it took them time to finally get the comeback, but when they did, it was with two goals already. At the 83rd minute, Oscar Romero scored the second goal of the visitors and, six minutes later he appeared again to score the third and give the victory to Diego Monarriz’s men.
With the victory, San Lorenzo is currently the second place of Group A, behind Boca Juniors on goal difference. Their next match will be against Gimnasia y Esgrima next Saturday. Patronato, on the other hand, are currently in the 11th place, just ahead of Godoy Cruz, however, the competition is just beginning. Their next match will be next Sunday, against Newell’s Old Boys.
