Current European runners-up, Tottenham bid farewell to the UEFA Champions League early on Tuesday. The team led by Jose Mourinho ended up defeated 3-0 by RB Leipzig, in Germany and was eliminated from the main European club competition. In the first leg, the Germans had won 1-0.

Despite the advantage achieved in the first leg, RB Leipzig started this Tuesday’s match with a more aggressive stance than the rival and imposed difficulties on the English defense in the first minutes. So much so that, at 10, Marcel Sabitzer opened the scoring after Timo Werner’s move.

The goal further complicated Tottenham’s situation and boosted up the hosts’ impetuous in the match. At 18, Timo Werner himself shook the nets, but it was ruled out due to offside.

However, one became two, three minutes after, once again with Sabitzer. Angelino crossed in the area and the striker headed home past goalkeeper Hugo Lloris. 2-0 RB Leipzig.

Werner had the chance to score, but his effort hit the crossbar, around the half-hour mark.

The Spurs were clearly missing their main men, Son Heung-Min, and Harry Kane, but it doesn’t justify the way they played.

I say that the defeat was humiliating for Mourinho’s Spurs because of the way they behaved against Leipzig. I mean, they are the European runners-up and played cowardly both in the first match at home and in Germany.

The scenario for the second half seemed just like that historic game against Ajax in the last season UEFA Champions League semifinals. The Spurs, commanded by Argentine Mauricio Pochettino at that occasion, were defeated 1-0 at home and conceded two goals in the first half in Holland.

Then, the star from Brazilian striker Lucas Moura shone, as he scored a second-half hat trick and conducted the Spurs to the final of the European Cup.

Lucas even tried, but not even him could avoid the defeat this time.

RB Leipzig killed the confrontation off with 86 minutes, as substitute Forsberg capitalized on a goal-mouth confusion inside the box and scored from close range. 3-0 RB Leipzig.
