Following key-players’ injuries, and a lot of uncertainty, PSG absolutely bossed the deadline day of the European transfer window. What was already being speculated in recent days became official on Monday. Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid have confirmed a goalkeeper swap deal. PSG have finally signed Keylor Navas in a 15 million euros deal, while Real will borrow Areola for a season.

Navas leaves Los Blancos after five years. The Costa Rica International caught Madrid’s attention following a very good, and surprisingly Brazil 2014 World Cup for Costa Rica. In Madrid, Navas experienced a lot of ups and downs, but at least, he can say that the won the UEFA Champions League three times in a row with Real Madrid.

However, the goalkeeper lost a lot of space after the Thibaut Courtois arrival at Madrid. It’s maybe even unfair, as Courtois is playing based on the name he built at Chelsea. Because skill-wise, I see the Costa Rican as a much better keeper than the Belgian.

It’s always worth to remember and to clarify though, that Navas is already 32-year-old, and maybe that has played a major role in Zinedine Zidane’s decision of benching him.

Keylor signed a contract until June 2023 with PSG and he is very keen to start. In an interview, the former Real Madrid keeper said that he is looking forward to conquering the Parisians’ hearts:

“I come to France with many ambitions. PSG is a very prestigious club in Latin America. I will do everything to help Paris win new titles with all my experience and professionalism and also try to win the hearts of Paris fans,” said Navas.

On the other hand, the 26-year-old goalkeeper Alphonse Areola arrives to be Courtois’ reserve in Real Madrid in a one-season loan deal, with no option to buy after the end of it.

I see the swap deal with good eyes, for two basic reasons: Areola will expose the fraud that Courtois is, and Navas will be respected in Paris – at least I think so -.
