Mo Salah scores, as Liverpool beat Southampton 3-1 in a nervy match

Oh my god, Liverpool… Why? Why do you always do these things to us? What a game of Football. 1-0 down away, and showed a very consistent football to turn things around and leave the St. Mary Stadium with the 3 points. What about Mo Salah in that counter-attack? I bet you did the same as me. “Oh my god, pass to Bobby, Mo! Pass to Bobby… NOOOOO… YEEEEEEEEESSSSSSS!! GET IN YOU REDMEN!!” Oh, my days… What a game. Furthermore, the Captain, Jordan Henderson, wrapping the game up.

Certainly, a very consistent display from the Reds in Southampton. However, fair play to the Saints as well. Even fighting against relegation, they initiated the game at a frenetic pace. It looked like Liverpool were the team who was facing relegation, and the Saints the one who was fighting for the League title. Shane Long capitalized on a poor defense from the Reds and saw himself face to face against the Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson Becker. Long fired the Saints ahead with 9 on the clock. 1-0 Southampton.

After that, the hosts kept pushing for another, as the Reds looked very nervy. The midfield with Naby Keita, Fabinho and Gini Wijnaldum wasn’t working. Even with a certain “popular acclamation” for Klopp to start with this trio in the midfield, they didn’t work. Also, they looked too floppy on defending. The so-called “Brexit midfield” with Jordan Henderson, James Milner, and Gini Wijnaldum looked better so far.

Anyways. Moreover, the Reds retook the control in the match. They pushed and finally got the 1-1. After a messy play, with two long balls across the box, Trent Alexander-Arnold assisted Keita in a perfect cross from the right. The Reds’ number 8 headed home. 1-1.

After the break, Klopp introduced the Brexit midfield, with the captain Henderson and Milner in for Arnold and Gini out. It did wonders. Liverpool didn’t look so floppy defending anymore. Although Liverpool improved, the Saints looked more dangerous. However, in a corner for the Saints, Liverpool’s second goal was built.

Finally, Ward-Prowse’s corner from the left was cleared off by Virgil van Dijk. The ball got to Nathan Redmond, who tried to shoot. The Reds cleared it again, and the ball fell down to Henderson. Liverpool’s captain headed to Salah, who saw himself alone, against only one Southampton defender. So the Egyptian King drove forward. While Bobby Firmino and Sadio Mane joined him. Mo Salah was struggling against an eight-game drought. Poor performances also didn’t help Liverpool’s number 11. So everyone hoped he was going to pass to Mane or Firmino. However, the Egyptian King got into the area and slotted home a World-class goal, with 80 on the clock.

The celebration was explosive. He got rid of the jersey and went to celebrate with the traveling Kop. What a goal, what a celebration! Good job, Mo!

Five minutes later, a long ball from van Dijk found Firmino down the right. He waited for someone to infiltrate in the area, and guess who was there. Jordan Henderson! Well deserved for our captain. 1-3 Liverpool.

Now Liverpool have 82 points, with five games to go. City have 80, with six to go. However, I feel that the games will be tougher for City, as they will face Tottenham at home, and United away on a sequence. Above all, the Reds need to take advantage of this if they want to go all the way and bag this trophy. Get in, Liverpool! Good job, lads!

He’s done it again!

Nothing like a hat-trick after another. The worst season of Cristiano Ronaldo in the Champions League in 13 years has had a turnaround. The Portuguese stepped up at the Juventus Stadium with only one goal in the entire tournament. And he left with one more of his magical nights. The Old Lady’s number 7 scored all of the three goals in a 3-0 win over Atletico Madrid on Tuesday in Turin and secured the Italian team’s place in the last 16 of the competition. A quick reminder is that Atletico had won the first leg in Spain for 2-0.

La Juve finished the first half with 62% possession and six more attempts than Atlético. They were absolutely dominant throughout the whole game. From start to finish. The first goal started with Spinazzola robbing the ball on the left and Bernardeschi’s good move. The Italian talent pulled out a good cross, who had a target spotted. Guess who it was? Yeah… The Goat… Mr. Champions opened the scoring in a header, even being heavily marked by Atletico’s defense. 1-0 Juventus.

It was only three minutes of the second half for Cristiano Ronaldo to give indications that he would have one of the best nights of his career. And again with one of its main weapons: the thrust. This time, he took advantage of a right cross, headed well, but Jan Oblak made a great save. But the technology of the goal line helped Juve and validated the second goal of CR7. The third would come in the 85th minute, in a penalty shootout suffered by Bernardeschi. To the team of Diego Simeone, the frustration remained. Atletico ended the match without hitting Szczesny’s goal. And he bid farewell to the European dream again.

There are so many data to highlight the greatness of Cristiano Ronaldo in the Champions League that it is difficult to know where to start … come on:

– Cristiano has reached 124 goals in 160 games. He is the highest scorer of the tournament

– Cristiano has reached 63 goals in the knockout phase in the Champions League. He is the leader in the matter

– Cristiano Ronaldo reaches the quarter-finals of the Champions League for the ninth consecutive time

– Cristiano Ronaldo scored his eighth hat-trick in the Champions League. Equated Messi in statistics

Juventus joins Ajax, Manchester United, Tottenham, Porto, Manchester City, Liverpool, and Barcelona among the qualifiers to the quarterfinals of the Champions League.

For the fifth time in the last six years, Atletico is eliminated from the Champions League with Cristiano Ronaldo as their rival. In 2013/14 and 2015/16, Diego Simeone’s team fell to Real Madrid in the decision. In 2014/15, he was eliminated in the quarterfinals. In 2016/17, he left in the semifinal. And now, he’s on his way in the round of 16. In all, the Portuguese has scored seven goals in eight confrontations for the tournament against the rival. There’s only one question… Who is better? Messi or Ronaldo? Both are great, honestly…

Lyon wins the UEFA Women’s Champions League for the 4th time in a row

This Saturday (18th of May) was an important day for Women’s Football. It was the final of the Women’s UEFA Champions League. The match took place in Budapest… And what an incredible match.

Barcelona, for the first time in history going to the final, was going to face the powerful Lyon. The French club were the current champions and wanted to lift the trophy again. And they got it. After an amazing first half, the girls of Lyon were once again champions after a 4-1 victory.

The match began with a good chance for Barcelona, but soon things changed sides. At the 5th he amazing Van de Sanden – who played her best football – planted a low cross into the box. It was up to the Budapest-born Marozsan tap in an easy finish to the goal. Almost 10 minutes later Van der Sanden has been again released down the right. This time she passed it to Ada Hegerberg. The Norwegian scored her first goal this afternoon, sending the ball pass Sandra Paños.

Things continued hot on the first half and at the 19th minute, Hegerberg appeared once again to put the ball on the net and make the 3-0. With that, things were pretty difficult to Barcelona, once their best player, Lieke Martens, was not on a good day. And to make things worse to the Spaniards at the 30th minute Hegerberg scored her hattrick, showing why she is the best player in the world. This time it was Bronze who delivered and it was the first goal in which the Norwegian had to score under pressure.

The second half was calmer, but Barcelona still wasn’t able to score. They even had some good chances, especially after Asisat Oshoala coming in. And the Nigerian was able to score the only goal for the Spanish side, at the 89th minute. The scoring finished 4-1 to the French and another trophy.

Guardiola denies taking on Juve next season

Pep Guardiola denied in all letters that he plans to leave Manchester City next season. After Massimiliano Allegri’s departure from Juventus, the Spanish coach was a supposed substitute. He was questioned on Friday about a possibility of a change for the Old Lady. And the answer was narrow. As far as he is concerned, he stays in England until the end of the contract, in 2021.

Angry with the same question over and over again, Guardiola was straight on the interview. “I don’t plan on going to Juventus. I will continue in Manchester for more two years if that is also the will of City.” he started. “Next season I’ll be training Manchester City”, he completed saying.

The statement was on the eve of the last match of the English Champion of the season. This Saturday, Manchester City faces Watford for the FA Cup decision. But behind-the-scenes matters dominated the day before the ruling. The contracting (or not) of Griezmann, for example, entered in agenda.

On that matter, the Spanish coach said that Barcelona did not need to worry, because Manchester City don’t intend on buying Antoine Griezmann. According to him, the team doesn’t have the money to do so. And honestly, Griezmann wouldn’t be really necessary to the Citizens, once the midfield is still very good.

With the title of the Premier League and the English League, the blue side of Manchester faced Watford this Saturday (18th of May) for the FA Cup final and guaranteed the third trophy this season after an amazing victory by 6-0 with goals of David Silva, Raheem Sterling, Kevin de Bruyne and Gabriel Jesus. Sterling scored a hat-trick and showed he is an important player for the Citizens. With this, Manchester City finished the season with all possible titles inside England, but no titles on Europe. They will come back to the pitch on the 17th of July, for the semi-final of the Asia Trophy, against West Ham.
