Group A of the Copa Libertadores 2020 had its second matchday played this Wednesday. As in the debut, Independiente Del Valle won its match and is fighting with Flamengo the leadership of the group. The Ecuadorian side beat Junior Barranquilla 3-0 at the Olympic Stadium Atahualpa. The goals were all scored in the second half by Fernando Guerrero, Moises Isaac Caicedo, and Lorenzo Faravelli.
The first half started already showing what the match would be like. Miguel Angel Ramirez’s men dominated the offensive actions and had the ball, while the visitors were looking for a chance of counterattacks. Even with all the control and the best chances created, the hosts weren’t able to score during the first 45 minutes and both sides went to the half-time goalless.
The second half showed, even more, pressing from Independiente if it was possible. They were at home and wanted the victory more than everything, so they launched themselves to attack and were able to break the deadlock at the 60th minute. Guerrero saw that he had space and hit a beautiful kick from outside the box into the back of the net.
With the advantage, the hosts didn’t stop attacking but took some time before they scored again. The second goal came at the 84th minute when Caicedo hit from distance to double the scoring. 10 minutes later, they scored again through Faravelli, who also shot from outside the box to give final numbers to the match.
With that, Independiente del Valle is currently the first place of Group A, because of the goal difference, with the same 6 points as Flamengo. Junior Barranquilla still has no points and is in the 3rd place.
With both Copa Libertadores and the Colombian championship suspended due to the Covid-19, Junior FC will rest until the competitions are back. Del Valle, on the other hand, will play on Sunday the first match for the Ecuadorian Serie A, against Deportivo Cuenca, away.
