Among the new rising stars in Women’s Football, we should take a look at Mary Fowler. The 17-year-old player, daughter of an Irish and an Australian, has a promising career. She was part of the squad of Australia that went to the Women’s World Cup in France, in 2019. Even though she didn’t play, just the fact that she was there, sitting on the bench, at 17 years old, was really important for all the other young girls who have that dream.

So, let’s know a little more about this fantastic player.

Mary was born on February 14, 2003, in Australia and comes from a family full of athletes. Her siblings Quivi and Ciara are also football players and both chose to play for Ireland, once their father was born there. Mary, on the other hand, went for playing for her mother’s country and in 2018, Australia manager Alen Stajcic gave her the opportunity of playing for the first team in the Tournament of Nations. She became the fifth-youngest player to play for the Matildas, with 15 years and 162 days. For the National Team, she played 4 matches and still didn’t score.

She was also called for some friendly matches against England and France but missed the one against Chile once she had to fly to England in order to attend trials with the first teams of Chelsea, West Ham and Manchester City who all wanted to sign her. In the end, she decided to continue in Australia, for her father’s displeasure, playing for Illawarra Stingrays and later for Adelaide United. In 2019, she played a total of 16 matches and scored 6 goals.

Now, she signed with French side Montpellier. Playing in a better league and near many of the best women currently playing football, Mary is probably going to improve her skills and maybe, in a close future, will be one of the best players in Women’s Football around the world.
