The Covid-19 pandemic is causing a lot of trouble in the world, and obviously, in football as well. Many teams are in a terrible financial situation and don’t know what to do to honor their commitments to their players and workers in general.

It’s the case of Swiss side FC Sion, who tried to take an emergency measure regarding the athletes’ wages, and apparently, it wasn’t well accepted by some of them.

Among the players who disliked this measure, was Alex Song, former Arsenal, and Barcelona player.

The Cameroonian said that he and his teammates received a single WhatsApp text saying that the players should sign a document that would reduce their salaries to 12k euros a month. According to him, there were no further details on it.

Together with the other 8 players, he decided not to sign the paper. They wanted to discuss with the club first and try to get the best out of both sides. However, the Swiss team decided to fire all the nine players who refused the cut.

Among them, the most important players of the team, such as Ermir Lenjani, Pajtim Kasami, and Seydou Doumbia.

With that, Alex Song decided to take the case to FIFA in an attempt to defend himself and his teammates. According to him, they have not made any professional mistakes and the normal thing would be to talk about it and find a solution, not decide for their players without listening to them.

It’s apparently a problem that a lot of teams will face for the next weeks and maybe even months. Both sides have their reasons and motivations, so it’s maybe up to FIFA to step up and decides this whole situation.

In any case, it’s curious to see FC Sion’s audacity to fire their best players. Let’s see the whole outcome of this.
