If there is a sector that Atletico Madrid needs improvement, it is certainly the attack. At the beginning of the season and the arrival of Joao Felix, everybody thought they would have an amazing season. But the truth is that the Portuguese player is still in development. Morata and Diego Costa, the other two options in the attack, are having an unstable season. In the end, the Colchoneros keep up with the search for someone to replace Griezmann.
Some reports coming from Spain claim that Diego Simeone’s side will try to go for a youngster that has been attracting attention from all over Europe and even was nicknamed after a legend of his country. He is called the “New Falcao Garcia”.
His real name is Alfredo Morelos though.
He is a 23-year-old Colombian who is currently playing for Rangers. He started his career in Europe playing for HJK, in Finland. He spent two seasons there and scored 46 goals in a total of 64 matches.
In 2017, he moved to Scotland and quickly showed his value. In his first season, he scored 18 goals. In the second, he had 30 goals. In the current season, with Steven Gerrard on the command of the team, Morelos had scored 29 goals and gave 10 assists, considering all competitions, until the leagues’ stoppage.
It is no surprise that his name could be on the radar of Diego Simeone, especially when his nickname brings so many good memories to Atleti. The “new Falcao Garcia” is a talented boy that could be very useful on Atletico Madrid, and honestly, a better striker in the long run than Morata or Diego Costa.
The price is also very good, once the athlete would cost less than 30 million euros to the Spanish club. He would be a cheap investment that has more chances of going right than Joao Felix, who cost a lot of money and – so far – failed to show all the expected football.
Will Morelos thrive in case he goes to Spain?
I frankly think that he will. Although I think that the Simeone style would be a little annoying for him at the beginning, he is a versatile striker and can develop under him.
